Advanced Yoga Training (500 hour)

The Advanced Yoga Teacher/Beginning Yoga Therapy program at yama studio is designed to inspire participants to deepen their understanding of yoga and expand their therapeutic yoga class teaching techniques as they also learn how to create safe, effective and marketable therapeutic workshops for special populations.

Participants also learn the skills required to offer individual yoga therapy sessions and enjoy a rich and comprehensive educational experience studying yoga from a variety of perspectives. This affords the student the opportunity to deepen their awareness, enjoy the benefits of living a more balanced and proactive lifestyle, and graduate as leaders and sought after professionals in the yoga industry.

Advanced coursework includes creating and offering workshops and individual sessions as well as homework assignments, self study and practice, required reading and research, a published document and regular testing. Online assignments, as well as regular contact with "family groups" and mentors are required through yama's online support center.

The focus of the program is heavily oriented toward combining and understanding of the koshas, chakras, gunas and Ayurvedic doshas to allow the Yoga Therapist to create a unique, individualized program for each of their clients, classes and workshops using all the tools of Yoga.

If your primary interest in pursuing an advanced yoga certificate is to move into extreme asana, and your primary focus is to "fix" the physical body, this program is not for you. If you are interested in understanding the full range of tools available in traditional Yoga, and you are interested in energetics, philosophy, pranayama and a full understanding of the human experience, you will be well suited to this program.

Graduation requirements include attendance at weekend trainings (two authorized absences are permitted), completion of on-line homework assignments, production and completion of an 8-week specialty Yoga class series, plus 20 individual sessions. In addition, students are required to create a research project which will culminate in an article appropriate for a professional journal such as "Yoga Therapy in Practice".

Only those who are Yoga Alliance registered at the 200 hour may apply. yama therapeutics believes there is more to Yoga than asana, and if you wish to thrive in the program we ask that you be able to consider more than the physical body. To be considered for the 500 hour course you must already be Yoga Alliance registered at the 200 hour level.

Those who wish to transfer to yama therapeutics from another school MUST take our Yoga Therapy Certificate course on-line. Exceptions will be made ONLY for these 200 hour programs: Himalayan Institute, Integral Yoga and Integrative Yoga Therapy. Completion of the certificate must occur at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the training program. With the completion of the certificate, the fee for the certificate will be counted as the deposit for the course. If the prospective student does NOT finish the course at least 3 weeks prior to the start of the program, the fee for the certificate program will cover the cost of the certificate alone, and the prospective student may be considered for the following year's program. They will be required to pay a $500 deposit when registering for the following year’s program.

If you are ready for the rich and rewarding experience afforded by this program please contact us soon so we may consider you for our next enrollment.

Tuition price for the 500 hour program is $3895.

A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due at registration to hold your place in class.

(Those who pay in full by the first day of class receive a 5% discount.)

"Although I am an Indian practicing yoga for years, I found myself intensely impressed and inspired by the yoga teacher training program at yama studio. The yoga asanas, the meditations, the chanting and the slokas were profoundly authentic, their impact so real lasting and deep. Peace, harmony and compassion enveloped me the moment I stepped into the studio. I especially loved the inner vibration of Sundari/Diane's chanting voice, so incredibly thought-provoking as she led yoga participants through slokas from the Bhagavad Gita."
-Gurbin Kaur, class of 2007
